"…an inherently wicked sense of humor and enough curve balls to keep the game interesting."

"For a quick summer read at the beach …, Havens provides a great addition to your backpack or bag."

Today is a good day. Bronwyn hasn’t killed anyone–yet.

Being a witch can be rewarding and fun, but it can also be perplexing, frustrating, angering, and dangerous, especially when you’re protecting world leaders and dealing with warlocks, sheiks with love on their mind–and aggravating assistants rule out prime ministers. Such is the life of a high witch like Bronwyn who is determined to keep a civil minded oil rich sheik whose family wants him dead and England’s prime minister alive. That’s just in the international world of politics.

Back home the new doctor in the little town of Sweet, Texas where Bronwyn lives sets all the females fluttering. Too bad he''s a warlock. Bronwyn can’t abide warlocks, and yet there is something about Sam that sets Bronwyn tingling with confusion, excitement, and dread. Warlocks are not good relationship partners and Bronwyn ought to know; enough of them have tried to kill her over the years.

What Helen Fielding did for British Singletons Candace Havens does with Bronwyn the witch in Charmed & Dangerous. Havens details the usual relationship problems, but into her literary cauldron she adds a dash of adventure, a tablespoon of mystery, a cup of humor and just a hint of spice and reality. Havens creates a world where witchcraft marches side by side with mortals and comes off as a planet where everyone would want to live. With an inherently wicked sense of humor, and enough curve balls to keep the game interesting, Charmed & Dangerous is a definite home run that will tickle your funny bone and keep you interested until the final page.

The only foul ball in the whole game is a tendency to wrap things up a little too neatly and lean a bit heavily on the schmaltz. If you’re looking for a quick summer read at the beach or between innings at the ball park, Havens provides a great addition to your backpack or bag.
