Peter Miller, President and CEO of Global Lion Intellectual Property Management, Inc. (previously PMA Literary & Film Management Inc. of New York) passed away at age 73 due to complications associated with bladder and lung cancers in Pompano Beach, Florida the morning of September 20, 2021.A literary agent for fifty years, Miller represented more than 1,500 books, including twenty-three New York Times bestsellers, two of his own books and many articles. Miller authored “Get Published! Get Produced! A Literary Agent’s Tips on How to Sell Your Writing” in 1991 and “Author! Screenwriter! How to Succeed as a Writer in New York and Hollywood” in 2006. He also represented “100 Daily Affirmations: Lion Courage, Wisdom & Power”, written by his daughter Liseanne Miller in 2017, created in honor of his first battle with cancer. Notable clients include the late Vincent Bugliosi, the late Sir Ken Robinson, Anthony DeStefano, Jay Bonansinga, Ann Pearlman, Jean-Pierre Isbouts, and James Dallessandro. He loved his clients dearly and considered many of them to be close friends.Miller also managed, developed, and executive produced twenty-three movies, three of which were nominated for Emmy Awards: Goodbye, Miss Fourth of July (The Disney Channel, four nominations); A Gift of Love (Showtime, two nominations); and Helter Skelter (CBS, one nomination). He had many other film and television projects in development with Warner Bros. Features, Paramount/DreamWorks, and other production companies. Other accomplishments include producing the off-Broadway musical OLEO! and co-founding the literary agency Writer’s House in 1972.
Known in both the publishing world and Hollywood as the “Literary Lion”, Peter Miller regularly attended colleges, universities, writing conferences, Book Expo America, the London International Book Fair, and the Frankfurt Book Fair. Miller had a larger-than-life personality and established contacts nationally and internationally with not only publishers, writers, writers’ groups, and the media, but everyone who stumbled across his path.
Miller defined himself by his work and his love of lions, but he was also a cherished son, brother, father and friend. He was truly the abundant lion and will be remembered for his love of entertaining, theatre, and films (especially comedy). Miller loved to travel, visiting Los Angeles and New York regularly as well as travelling around Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Miller was passionate about representing projects that could make a positive impact on the world. His ongoing battle with cancer taught him to focus on what truly matters most – his friends and family. His greatest pride and joy in life was being a father to his two daughters. He talked about them non-stop and was so proud of the women they’d become. They were truly the reason he fought so hard to live especially in the last few months.
He is survived by his children Liseanne Miller and Margo Miller of New York City and their mother Giselle Dean Miller, as well as his niece Sarah Miller and nephews Peter Miller and Chris Miller.
A memorial will be held in New York City in November celebrating his life and fifty years of being in the business.
