To Read Work for PEN
Global Cause

NEW YORK, NY/Authorlink News/02/05/09- PEN American Center’s award-winning magazine, PEN America will have the first in a series of readings on February 24 to support the PEN cause, which aims to fight cultural insularity by publishing work that speaks across political, cultural, and linguistic boundaries. In the recent political climate, the literary magazine has been essential to an international dialogue. PEN hopes the readings will help maintain its vital presence in the global literary landscape.

Published for more than ten years, recent highlights from the magazine include controversial fiction from Saudi Arabia, moving memoir from Iraq, prize-winning poetry and fiction from PEN’s Prison Writing Contest, and conversations with Ian McEwan, Aleksandar Hemon, Nuruddin Farah, and many others. Now more than ever such an internationally focused collection is necessary, PEN believes.

Acclaimed writers including Andre Aciman, Edward Albee, Anthony Appiah, Ron Chernow, Lydia Davis, Deborah Eisenberg, Nathan Englander, Janet Malcolm, Francine Prose, Sarah Ruhl will read the prize-winning stories, poems and other award-winning work from their peers who live across the world. On the stage of Cooper Union’s newly-renovated Great Hall, writers from all corners of the world will come together at 7 p.m. in New York City . The Great Hall at Cooper Union is located at 7 East 7th Street at Third Avenue.

All proceeds will go towards PEN America and help support the editorial scope of this important literary journal. Tickets can be purchased at www.smarttix.com
