NEW YORK, NY/11/12/07–Macmillan Audio, a division of Macmillan Publishing in the USA, has acquired Language Dynamics, a company that develops language learning courses and the Behind the Wheel audio book series of instructional foreign language.

Macmillan Audio publisher Mary Beth Roche characterized the acquisition as “ideal for both the traditional audio book market as well as the new, exciting channels of distribution available to audio book listeners.” Mark Frobose, president of Language Dynamics, will become editorial director of Macmillan Audio’s foreign language program.

Macmillan Audio, formerly known as Audio Renaissance, is part of the newly-named Macmillan Publishing, owned by Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck in Stuttgart, Germany. American publishers under the Macmillan banner include Farrar Straus and Giroux, Henry Holt & Company, W.H. Freeman and Worth Publishers, Palgrave Macmillan, Bedford/St. Martin’s, Picador, Roaring Brook Press, St. Martin’s Press, Tor Books, and Bedford Freeman & Worth Publishing Group.

In October 2007, Holtzbrinck Publishers changed its name to Macmillan Publishers in the U.S. The US division is directed by John Sargent as CEO.

Macmillan is one of the most venerable and respected names in publishing, and is already the name of the English and Spanish language publishing operations of the Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck in more than 70 countries. The name change in the US from Holtzbrinck Publishers to Macmillan brings a unified worldwide presence to one of the premier publishing groups in the world.

The adult trade collection comes from a distinctive conglomerate of leading publishing imprints. Macmillan’s other primary focuses are on educating the leaders and thinkers of tomorrow with its college and academic titles, and magazines and journals.
