Penguin China Lands
Rights to Beckham’s
Bestselling Style Guide

NEW YORK, NY/9/4/07–Business was bustling for Penguin Group at this year’s Beijing International Book Fair. One of the most significant deals announced was Penguin’s acquisition of simplified Chinese language rights to Victoria Beckham’s style guide, That Extra Half an Inch. Rights have been bought by Trends Book Company, the group behind some of China’s top lifestyle books and magazines. As such, they will be the perfect home for this book, which will be published in China before the end of 2007.

Jo Lusby, General Manager, Penguin China, commented, “It was a very successful Fair and we are very excited about the acquisition of Victoria Beckham’s style guide. That Extra Half an Inch is going to add something very new to the range of style and fashion guides currently available in China, and we are looking forward to working very closely with the Trends Group to make this title a success here.”

Published in hardcover by Penguin UK imprint Michael Joseph, That Extra Half an Inch has sold nearly 400,000 copies in the UK since its initial publication in October 2006. Penguin has sold rights in the U.S. (Harper Collins), Holland (Unieboek), Japan (Kodansha), Portugal (Esfero do Caos), Lithuania (UAB Spaudos Praktika) and Russia (Eksmo).

One International Rights Director said, “It’s fantastic to get such a great deal in China for Victoria Beckham with a publisher that’s such a good fit for her book. The Beijing International Book Fair is turning into a fair where concrete rights business can be done.”

The Penguin paperback edition of That Extra Half an Inch will be published in the UK on September 6th, backed by an advertising campaign on the London Underground.

The Penguin Group ( http://www.penguin.com) is part of Pearson plc, the international media company.
