July 15-30, 2005 Edition Market Tip ChemMedChem
to Debut in 2006
Hoboken, NJ/06/30/2005Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. today announced the 2006 launch of ChemMedChem, a new journal covering all aspects of drug discovery.
ChemMedChem is the result of a new publishing agreement between the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI), the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh), and Wiley-VCH, the company’s subsidiary based in Weinheim, Germany. It’s also the latest publishing venture between Wiley-VCH and European chemical societies, who have cooperated successfully before on the publication of Chemistry A European Journal, European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, European Journal of Organic Chemistry, ChemBioChem, and ChemPhysChem.
” ChemMedChem represents a further, important step towards the establishment of a complete set of European Journals in the area of chemistry. The SCI, together with its two partners, is deeply involved in the success of the project, as it is for the maintenance of the high standard of our other European Journals.” declared Francesco De Angelis, President of the SCI. The SCI’s journal, Il Farmaco An International Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, will cease publication at the end of 2005 to make room for ChemMedChem.
ChemMedChem will publish peer-reviewed primary and critical secondary information from international top authors. The journal’s aim is to cover a wide range of topics: drug design and discovery; drug development and delivery; molecular modeling; combinatorial chemistry; target validation; and lead generation to name just a few.
“With ChemMedChem, the European medicinal chemistry community finally establishes its own premier journal, building on the highly successful top-quality tradition of our other European journals.” said Wolfram Koch, Executive Director of the GDCh. Manfred Antoni, Managing Director of Wiley-VCH, agreed and said, “We believe ChemMedChem fits well within the framework of our partnerships with renowned European chemical societies. The new journal will help to further enhance our service for the scientific community. It is to be expected that ChemMedChem will become a high-impact journal.”
The SCI and the GDCh have nominated Rainer Metternich (Schering AG, Germany) and Giorgio Tarzia (Università degli Studi di Urbino, Italy) as the first Co-Chairmen of the Editorial Board. Peter Gölitz, Editor-in-Chief of Angewandte Chemie, will serve as ChemMedChem‘s founding Editor.
In its first year, ChemMedChem will be available with Angewandte Chemie and Angewandte Chemie International Edition, the GDCh’s flagship journals published through Wiley-VCH.
