Announces Acquisition

Of Walker Publishing

NEW YORK, NY/12/22/04—Bloomsbury USA, a division of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc., one of Europe’s leading independent publishing houses, will acquire 45-year-old Walker & Company for $7 million, it was announced today by Nigel Newton, chairman and chief executive of the parent organization.

Walker will become a division of Bloomsbury’s U.S. unit and Walker publisher George Gibson will report to Bloomsbury USA publisher Karen Rinaldi.

Walker publishes about 60 titles per year in both children’s fiction and nonfiction as well as adult fiction categories. Under the new ownership it is expected to push into new publishing areas and increase output.

Bloomsbury Publishing, Plc. has just announced it will publish its sixth book in the Harry Potter series.
