Immigrants Fired
At B&N After Ice
Questions Papers

RENO, NV/Authorlink News/02/26/09–Barnes & Noble’s distribution center in Reno, Nevada fired 50 immigrants after a federal immigration audit showed they were undocumented.

Barnes & Noble issued a statement last week that the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Office (ICE) in Reno asked for I-9 forms for all of the company’s local warehouse workers. The ICE then required a number of workers to provide further documentation by February 20, which may not have been forthcoming.

“Barnes & Noble has fully cooperated with Immigration authorities and has notified those employees identified by ICE. The Company is committed to observing all employment documentation standards for our employees,” said Mary Ellen Keating, corporate spokesperson for the company. Keating said B&N expects to hear from ICE regarding the employees before the end of this week.

Some staffers approached the ACLU about possibly filing a legal case.
