Acquires New Tucker
/8/9/05Cindy Spiegel, Publisher and Vice President of Riverhead Books, has acquired, in a preempt, World English, audio and first serial rights to a new novel by Tucker Malarkey from literary agent Tina Bennett of Janklow & Nesbit. Called RESURRECTION, the book is based on the real-life drama surrounding the findings of the Gnostic Gospels at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in the wake of World War II and unfolds as a suspenseful, eye-opening tale of murder, love, and war. Most intriguinglyas the findings of the gospels themselves doMalarkey’s novel questions the underpinnings of Christianity and the Church and the role of women in church history.
A founding editor at Tin House, a literary journal based in Portland, Oregon and New York; formerly a researcher/writer for THE WASHINGTON POST; and member of the Iowa Writers Workshop, Malarkey grapples with both the mysterious and disturbing circumstances surrounding the discovery of the ancient texts as well as their explosive and fascinating content, which has profound implications for us today. RESURRECTION is her second book, following her critically acclaimed 2000 debut novel, AN OBVIOUS ENCHANTMENT. Riverhead Books will publish RESURRECTION in hardcover in June of 2006.
