Simon & Schuster

Promotes van Straaten

As VP of Publicity

NEW YORK, NY/07/19/05—Rick Richter, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster, has announced the promotion of Tracy van Straaten to Vice President, Executive Director of Publicity, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. Tracy is widely regarded—by her peers, authors, and the media as one of the top publicity executives in the publishing industry. Admired for her ability to break out the coverage for S&S’s title, she has been the driving force in the company’s most successful campaigns, working to promote titles such as Olivia, Eloise, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type (and its sequels), Nancy Drew, the books of Robert Sabuda, and celebrity titles from John Lithgow to Lynne Cheney. She has also worked on the re-launch of Simon Pulse, the launch of Simon Spotlight Entertainment and most recently, Simon Scribbles.

Before joining Simon & Schuster in 1998, Tracy’s career included positions at Little Brown, HarperCollins, and William Morrow. In her seven years at Simon & Schuster, Tracy has also advised on key acquisitions, and has helped the company position its list against the competition.
