R.L. Stine to New

Horror Series

NEW YORK, NY/5/21/07­-American novelist R.L. Stine, best known for his young adult novels and the wildly successful Goosebumps series, has signed a contract with Scholastic to produce a 12-book series called Goosbumps HorrorLand. The new series, featuring both Goosbumps characters and new ones, will be set in a theme park. Each book, though stand-alone, will tie into a continuing mystery that is solved only at the end of the 12 books.

Scholastic is backing the series with a $500,000 promotional campaign which will include individual web sites for each book. Books 1 and 2 will e released in April 2008, and Scholastic will also re-issue 10 Goosbumps books. Scholastic plans to issue a Horrorland book every month, and a Goosbumps reissue every other month. The Goosbumps series has sold more than 300 million copies since it was first released in 1992.

The 65-year-old R.L. Stine, known as Jovial Bob Stine, is often called the Stephen King of children’s literature.
