Names New

Fiction Buyer

ANN ARBOR, MI/6/23/08­Borders Group, Inc. has named Jennifer Northcutt as Fiction buyer for Borders and Waldenbooks, effective immediately. She reports to Micha Hershman, merchandising director, Fiction and Diversity.

Before being named to her new post, Northcutt served since 2006 as the Young Adult buyer in the Children’s group where she played an integral role in the development and successful implementation of high-profile properties including “Harry Potter” and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series,” as well as growing the sales of other literary titles such as “The Book Thief” and works by poet Ellen Hopkins. From 2004 until 2006, Northcutt served as assistant buyer, and prior to that, she served in a number of roles in both Borders stores and the corporate office.

“Jennifer is an extremely energetic and creative individual with a proven ability to handpick titles that our customers will love,” said Kathryn Popoff, vice president of Merchandising and Trade Books. “As the Young Adult buyer, she managed some of the biggest titles, implemented new marketing techniques and fostered dynamic growth of the Young Adult Fiction category. She has the right combination of skills and experience to foster growth in the general Fiction category and I’m delighted she’s taken on this new role.”
