Sales for Future

NEW YORK, NY/4/18/06—Barnes & Noble CEO Stephen Riggio said in a New York Times interview April 15 that “Reports of the book industry’s demise have been greatly exaggerated over the last 20 years.” He said that contrary to gloomy projections unsupported by research that the book business is a stable one and has never had a single year of sales decline.

He told Times reporter Ken Jaworowski that it’s a good time to be in the book business. “The heaviest book buyers are over 40 years old and that’s the fastest-growing segment of the population.”
