Program at Starbucks
Succeeds for Albom

NEW YORK/NY/10/30/06—Mitch Albom’s novel For One More Day (Hyperion) has received a major boost from the world’s top coffee retailer Starbucks. In addition to its famous java, the coffee company has served up more than 50,000 sales of Albom’s new novel since the book was released in Starbucks stores on October 3, shortly after its debut in bookstores. According to Nielsen BookScan, about 12% of a total of 391,000 sales have come through Starbucks.

The promotion, which includes appearances by Albom in 25 store locations, was initially planned to end November 6, but the company will now extend the program through the holiday season.

Albom’s newest book, For One More Day, is selling 150% more per week than did The Five People You Meet in Heaven, which has sold six million copies, according to quotes in the media by Hyperion Books president Bob Miller. Albom is also the author of the highly successful book Tuesdays With Morrie. In the heart-tugging For One More Day, burned-out former pitcher Charlie Benedetto getting an additional 24 hours with his mother eight years after her death.

Starbucks, offering coffee drinks and food items, as well as beans and coffee accessories, has some 10,000 coffee shops in more than 30 countries, including both company-owned and franchisee outlets.

Several publishers are in discussion with William Morris Agency, which scouts books for Starbucks, about possible future book distribution deals.
