Two Key Publishers,
Holtzbrinck, Perseus
Launch New Imprints

NEW YORK, NY/3/21/07–Holtzbrinck Publishers, which also owns St. Martin’s Press, and Perseus Books Group, which just acquired the assets of PGW distribution, are both launching new imprints this year.

Holtzbrinck this spring has launched Square Fish children’s division, and it will also kick off its hardcover Feiwel & Friends imprint in Fall 2007. Also this fall, Perseus Books will launch Basic Ideas, an offspring of Basic Books, specializing in short biographies of 40,000 words or less.

In January, Holtzbrinck hired Jean Feiwel, formerly senior vice president of the Scholastic trade division, to head Square Fish and Feiwel & Friends as vice president and publisher of the new Holtzbrinck children’s unit.

Kicking off in April 2007 in conjunction with Square Fish will be another Holtzbrinck division, Audio Renaissance, which will produce children’s audio narrated by well-known actors and actresses including Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. The first stitle in the new audio line will be The One and Only Shrek! a collection of picture book titles by William Steig.

At Perseus, Basic Ideas will cover a variety of subjects that capture ideas and how they are realized by the people who have them. Among some of the titles included in the launch will be books by Gary Indiana, William F. Buckley and journalist Jeff Sharlet.
