Acquires Harcourt’s

Canadian Division

TORONTO/04/07/05—The reference and electronic division of Thomson Nelson, Inc. has acquired the kindergarten-Grade 12 educational publishing division of Harcourt Canada. The amount of the sale was not disclosed.

The acquisition will strengthen the e 200-year-old Christian media and publishing company’s presence in the educational market, specifically in language arts, math and science, arts and music. It will also allow the company to beef up its programs aimed at at-risk youth.

Harcourt authors and imprints complement the company’s current K-12 book list, and will add depth to elementary and secondary offerings to Canadian educators, according to George Bergquist, president of Thomson Nelson.

Not included in the sale were Harcourt Assessment, Harcourt Health Sciences and Elsevier divisions of Harcourt Canada.
