May 28 – June 4, 2012 Edition Stausberg Named CEO of Bertelsmann Printing

Gütersloh, May 30, 2012 – Bertram Stausberg (45) will be the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the independent print unit being established by Bertelsmann, the media conglomerate which owns Random House in the US.

Prinovis’s shareholders have agreed that he will simultaneously hold the position of CEO of the gravure printing company Prinovis. Stausberg is currently Managing Director of Prinovis’s northern German sites at Ahrensburg and Itzehoe, and the plant in Dresden.

A native of Wissen (Germany), Stausberg studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen. After earning his doctorate, he began his career in 1996 as assistant plant manager at Gruner Druck Itzehoe (now Prinovis Itzehoe). After that, he held successive management positions in the technical departments, and was eventually promoted to production manager. In 2006 he became Head of Production and Engineering at Prinovis Ahrensburg. In 2009, he was appointed Chief Technology Officer at Prinovis Nuremberg. Since 2010, he has been responsible for the Prinovis sites in Ahrensburg and Itzehoe as their Managing Director, and since 2011 has additionally been in charge of Prinovis Dresden’s business.

Stausberg will report to Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe. The new printing unit comprises all of Prinovis’s gravure printing operations and all of its international printing plants, which are currently still part of Arvato. In 2011 the unit generated €1.2 billion of revenues and it employs 6,800 people.

At Prinovis, Stausberg takes over as CEO from Thorsten Thiel, who is now in talks about taking on other tasks within the Bertelsmann Group.

Bertelsmann Chairman & CEO Thomas Rabe: “I am delighted that Bertram Stausberg is taking over the leadership of Bertelsmann’s new printing unit as well as the role of Prinovis CEO. As a noted print expert, he is well acquainted with the business and superbly qualified to further develop this unit’s strategy outside of Arvato with his management team. We thank Thorsten Thiel for his substantial contribution to Prinovis’s success. The group’s business development was significantly stabilized and major customer and restructuring initiatives were successfully carried out under his leadership. We wish him all the best for his future tasks”.
