Imprint to Start

Self-Help Line

NEW YORK, NY/8/23/06—Penguin’s nonfiction imprint, Perigee, is launching a line of self-help books together with Infinite Ideas, the UK publisher of the bestselling British self-help series, 52 Brilliant Ideas.

The first six books in the series will be launched in U.S. editions in 2007, and two additional titles will be released each month thereafter. Similar to the well-known Dummies series, the new self-help line will provide practical, problem-solving titles. Among planned titles are: Beat Your Allergies, Look Gorgeous Always, and Incredible Orgasms.

Perigee Books, originally created as the trade paperback imprint for G. P. Putnam’s Sons, has featured an eclectic range of titles from virtually every category of publishing, both fiction and nonfiction. One of the earliest, William Golding ‘s Lord of the Flies, is now the only work of fiction in a list otherwise devoted to prescriptive nonfiction.

Among the perennial bestsellers are The Complete Guide to Prescription and Nonprescription Drugs, Signing Illustrated: The Complete Learning Guide, The Girlfriends’ Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood, The Out-of-Sync Child, and Use What You Have Decorating. Featured Perigee authors include Heloise, Vicki Iovine, JoAnna Lund, and Miriam Nelson, PhD.

John Duff is publisher of the trade paperback imprints Perigee, HPBooks, and Avery. He is also a vice-president and senior editor for G. P. Putnam’s Sons. A native of Canada, he came to the U.S. with Doubleday where he was director of special interest publishing until 1992, when he joined The Putnam Berkley Group.
