“This year, the Benjamin Franklin Book Award judges read 1,370 entries from across the independent publishers community, each featuring its own unique voice and perspective,” said Angela Bole, IBPA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Following the tabulation of scores, we’re pleased to honor over 150 finalists across 54 categories – truly the best of the best.”

Each of the 1,370 entrants into the 2016 program were judged by three independent judges. Each judge had either a design focus or an editorial focus. Most entrants were assigned two editorial judges and one design judge. Some entrants, however, like those in the “Interior Design” category, were assigned only design judges and some entrants, like those in the “Best New Voice” categories, were assigned only editorial judges. All entrants will receive a completed score card from each judge

Winning an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award remains one of the highest national honors for small and independent publishers. To be a 2016 finalists, a book must have been published in the United States between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015.
