Sales Rise
For April ’08

WASHINGTON, DC/6/17/08–The U.S. Census Bureau last week reported bookstore sales rose 8.0%in April to $1.0 billion. The Bureau also revised its estimates for March down to $1.02 million, even with the year-ago figures for March 2007. Since the beginning of 2008, bookstore salves have increased 5.4% to $5.45 billion.

Overall retail sales for April 2008 rose only 3.6%. For the first four months of the year, retail sales increased 3.9%.
