Agassi Memoir Could Bring $4 Million or More
LAS VEGAS, NV/3/24/07–Bids for the official story of tennis star Andre Agassi have reached some $4 million, according to Publishers Weekly. The coveted memoir has not yet been written, nor has a writer been assigned to the project. The book will include personal details about his relationships and marriages, first to Brooke Shields and now to tennis pro Steffi Graf. Among publishers who have indicated an interest in the project are David Hirshey at HarperCollins and Sonny Mehta at Knopf. His agent is Richard Pine.
An unauthorized version of the sports star’s life, Agassi and Ecstasy, by Paul Buaman, assistant sports editor at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was published in 2002 by Bonus Books. The current project would be the first authorized version of Agassi’s story and would also cover the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas.
Andre’s father, Mike Agassi, co-wrote a book with Dominic Cobello titled THE AGASSI STORY. It was published in 2004 by ECW, and portrays Mike’s life as an immigrant from Iran to the US, and his attempt to turn each of his four children into tennis stars.
