ABA Membership

Continues Decline

Latest Report Shows

NEW YORK, NY/06/07/04—The American Booksellers Association’s bookstore memberships continue to decline. According to the latest ABA report, bookstore memberships fell to 1804 as of April 2004, down from 1908 a year earlier.

Incoming president Mitchell Kaplan, however, said he was encouraged by the ABA’s recent partnership with regional booksellers associations which should add more than 100 members to the roster. He said the organization will work hard to reverse the trend.

Ann Christopherson is the outgoing president. She served the board for six years.
