Literary agents are human. One’s political persuasions sometimes influence an agents’ decision to represent a writer. Finding the right agent is a little like finding a compatible partner. Several elements are at play. First, the agent’s emotional reaction to the manuscript must be positive. The more the material is aligned to the agent’s own beliefs, expectations, or experiences, the better the chance for representation. Secondly, the agent must believe he/she/they knows the right editor to acquire the project. Finally, the representative must feel the story will have strong appeal to a specific audience.

When you search for an agent, try to learn this much as you can about the agent’s interests. The titles that that person represents, can give you clues about whether your book might appeal to them. If the work leans radically one way or the other, You might have a more difficult time finding an agent or publisher.
