LOS ANGELES, CA, NY/12/7/06Manga comics publisher Seven Seas Entertainment has launched a new line of childrens books for kids on the verge of becoming teenagers. The line will debut next summer with the first 12 books. In addition the company will republish ten volumes of the popular fantasy series, Avalon: Web of Magic, by Rachel Roberts, and will also release two more never-before-published Avalon titles.
The Avalon books were originally published by CDS Books which no longer publishes childrens books. Red Sky Entertainment, which owned the rights, has resold the series to Seven Seas. The Avalon series has reportedly sold more than 750,000 copies.
Seven Seas is taking a number of initiatives to strengthen its appeal to younger teens. The company announced in late November that two of its top original manga titles for teens will be sold through Scholastic Book Fairs beginning in January 2007. The two titles will be sold at 7,500 middle schools across the country.
Amazing Agent Luna is a five-volume series that follows the story of Luna, a fifteen-year-old girl who is the ultimate secret agent, but is given a mission that will test her abilities to the maxhigh school!
Destinys Hand is a three-volume series about a young pirate girl named Olivia Soldana who is tasked by her dying captain to lead his ship and find the legendary lost treasure the Devils Eye.
Both series are written by the writing team of Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, who have worked on such comic series as New X-Men: Academy X, New Mutants, and Adventures of Superman, and have written for such television shows as Arli$$.
