NEW YORK, NY/10/19/06—Khaled Hosseini, author of the internationally acclaimed #1 New York Times bestseller, The Kite Runner, returns with a highly anticipated new novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, which will be published by Riverhead Books on May 22, 2007, it was announced today by Geoffrey Kloske, Vice President, Publisher, Riverhead Books. The book is being edited by Sarah McGrath, Vice President, Executive Editor.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is propelled by the same superb instinct for storytelling that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic. It is a heart-wrenching chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history and a deeply moving story of family, friendship, faith and the salvation to be found in love.

Khaled Hosseini said, “In some ways, the writing of A Thousand Splendid Suns was an even more satisfying experience for me than the writing of The Kite Runner, because it was a more complex and ultimately unexpected journey.”

Sarah McGrath commented, “A Thousand Splendid Suns is a remarkable achievement. Hosseini confronts Afghanistan’s volatile history head-on, and shows how the evolving ideas about women dramatically change the lives of these unforgettable families. It’s a beautifully told, truly important novel, and one I found impossible to put down.”
