December 10 – December 17, 2009 Edition Meier Leaving Santa Barbara Writers Conference

SANTA BARBARA, CA/AUTHORLINK NEWS/December 10, 2009–Marcia Meier, the longtime owner and director of Santa Barbara Writers Conference (SBWC) is stepping down from her post at the end of December, and has put the event up for sale. In her newsletter announcement of the change, Meier said she hopes to announce the new owner and director within a few weeks.

In addition, Meier announced that longtime workshop leader John Daniels, will become an emeritus faculty member beginning in 2010.

Meier is leaving to have more time to promote her new book, Navigating the Rough Waters of Today’s Publishing World, Critical Advice for Writers From Industry Insiders, which will be published in early 2010 by Steve Mettee and Quill Driver Books. She also plans to continue her activities as a writing coach, and speaker. In addition she will offer guided week-long writers’ retreats in Santa Barbara for select groups later next year.

In making the announcement, Meier said, “Nearly everything about the conference invigorated me, but the financial drain each year had become untenable. It is my hope that whoever acquires it will have not only deep pockets but an equally deep love of helping writers achieve their writing goals, as that is what has fed me all these years.”
