Harry Potter Not Worth Risking Life, Reporter Says

FORT WAYNE, IN/07/07/05—According to an item in the Fort Wayne, Ind. News Sentinel, some people are nearly ready to die in order to get their hands on a copy of the latest Harry Potter book. The item, originally reported by Patrick T. Reardon in the Chicago Tribune, said two beefy men had the newest Harry Potter book hidden in a one-bedroom apartment in Kettering, a small town about 80 miles north of London. They offered to sell their pirated copy of the book for $91,000 to reporter John Askill with the British tabloid, The Sun.

When Askill tried to grab the merchandise and escape without paying, one of the men pulled a pistol. “I looked down the barrel of a gun—and thought I was about to die for the sake of Harry Potter," he later wrote.
