HarperCollins/Morrow

Cuts Back Cookbook

Titles for 2007

NEW YORK, NY/6/23/07—HarperCollins’s Morrow imprint is expected to cut back on the number of new cookbooks it publishes in fiscal 2007, though HarperCollins CEO Jane Friedman has been quoted in Publishers Weekly as saying the company is still buying and publishing cookbooks and stressed that all contracted titles will be published.

Small staff changes signaled the cut-back this month when cookbook publicist Carrie Bachman was laid off and editor Harriet Bell’s work week was cut to three days. Friedman said that the company wants to tighten the Morrow list. HarperCollins’s cookbook list companywide includes 38 titles this fiscal year, ending June 30.
