Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), one of the nation’s largest booksellers and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced its continued sponsorship of World Book Night 2014 on Wednesday, April 23.

Barnes & Noble retail stores and Barnes & Noble College stores will serve as community host locations on World Book Night, an annual celebration spreading a love of reading and books, person to person. Publishers generously print special editions of books selected by an independent panel of booksellers and librarians, and 25,000 volunteer “givers” select books and hand them out to light readers and non-readers in their communities. Barnes & Noble stores will feature World Book Night displays and designated stores will serve as pick-up locations for book givers.

A committee of librarians and booksellers, including Barnes & Noble buyers, selected more than 30 books to include on this year’s World Book Night list. The selection features books that appeal to a range of ages and interests, including books in Spanish and large print editions.  Titles include Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, When I Was Puerto Rican by Esmeralda Santiago, 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup , and A Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.

“Our participation in World Book Night reflects our commitment to literacy and community,” said Patricia Bostelman, Vice President, Marketing. “Last year, more than 600 Barnes & Noble bookstores, independent bookstores and libraries held giver receptions, author events and readings. More than half a million books were given away by 25,000 World Book Night volunteers in 50 states. We’re confident this year’s selection will continue to inspire the event’s givers and recipients.”
