WSJ Looks for New

Publisher After S&S;

Fails to Renew

3/9/04—The Wall Street Journal, a Dow Jones company, may soon move its imprint to another publisher, after having already let its three-year contract with Simon & Schuster’s Free Press expire. A new book deal is expected within a few weeks, though executives at Dow Jones said the relationship with S&S had been excellent. Neither company would say why the contract was not renewed.

Wall Street Journal Books was to release 12 books per year, but in recent years only five books have been produced, mainly in the how to category. The imprint was designed to offer WSJ reporters a publishing platform similar to Times Books. But many of the newspaper’s well-known journalists seem to have gotten deals with other publishers.
