S&S to Produce

Audiobook Collection

Of Hemingway’s Work

NEW YORK, NY/2/15/06—Simon & Schuster Audio announced today an agreement with the Ernest Hemingway estate to publish in audiobook format the renowned author’s major literary works. The series will launch in May 2006 with A FAREWELL TO ARMS, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, and the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA; subsequent titles will be published monthly, culminating in January 2007. All titles will be available in eAudio format for download as well as CD.

The deal brings all formats of Hemingway’s books under one publisher. His works in printed and digital format are published by Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Spoken word editions of Hemingway’s major works were previously available only for the library market.

Patrick Hemingway, the author’s son, said, “I think that my father would have been pleased to have so many of his finest works published in audiobook form. Reading Hemingway is to listen to him, to ‘hear’ the dialogue. The spoken word versions will certainly add another dimension to his writing and will entice new audiences to his work.”

“We are thrilled to publish Ernest Hemingway’s lean, beautiful prose in what is to be the most complete audio collection ever produced for the legendary author,” concurred Chris Lynch, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Audio. “Our Grammy Award-winning production team will bring their usual commitment to excellence to all of these titles. By coming home to Simon & Schuster Audio, this collection will be promoted at every opportunity together with the catalog of Mr. Hemingway’s long-time publisher, Scribner.”

Simon & Schuster Audio has already published to critical acclaim THE SHORT STORIES VOLUMES I, II, and III, read by Stacy Keach, and TRUE AT FIRST LIGHT, read by Brian Dennehy.

Following the spring launch, subsequent titles in the new audio collection are: A MOVEABLE FEAST

(June 2006); ISLANDS IN THE STREAM (July 2006); TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (August 2006); ACROSS THE RIVER AND INTO THE TREES (September 2006); THE SUN ALSO RISES (October 2006); THE GARDEN OF EDEN (November 2006); GREEN HILLS OF AFRICA (December 2006); and DEATH IN THE AFTERNOON (January 2007).
