Simon & Schuster,
Kaplan Publishing
Expand Distribution Deal

NEW YORK, NY/2/5/07—Kaplan Publishing and Simon & Schuster, Inc have entered into a new and expanded distribution agreement for Kaplan’s book products, it was announced February 5. The agreement took effect on January 1, 2007.

Under the agreement, Simon & Schuster will continue to provide the complete array of retail and wholesale distribution operations—warehousing, fulfillment, customer service, and accounts receivable collection—for the Kaplan catalog of test prep publications. In addition, Simon & Schuster will now take on a similar role for Kaplan’s full line of business and management books, servicing retail, wholesale, and special sales accounts for Kaplan trade books in real estate, finance and investing, sales and marketing, and architecture and engineering titles. Prior to June 2006, Kaplan’s test prep guides had been published by a jointly held imprint of Simon & Schuster.

“We are delighted to continue as distributor for Kaplan’s test prep publishing, and to welcome their other publishing lines to our distribution client family,” said Joe Bulger, Vice President Client Management and Business Development for Simon & Schuster. “We will continue to provide Kaplan with the highest level of support and service and to help them grow their business.”

Maureen McMahon, Vice President and Publisher of Kaplan Publishing, added: “We’re very happy to extend our relationship with Simon & Schuster, and look forward to working with them and utilizing their proven expertise in distribution and fulfillment to help all of Kaplan’s authors reach the widest possible audience, and to provide our bookselling partners with the best service possible.”

“Our publishing program is evolving to become a more complete reflection of Kaplan, Inc.’s expanding range of businesses,” continues McMahon. “The name Kaplan was once associated exclusively with test preparation. Today, Kaplan retains its leadership position in test prep but is equally recognized as a leader in online education, academic tutoring, solutions for schools, and English language learning. Recent acquisitions such as PMBR, a leading nationwide provider of test prep for the Multistate Bar Review Exam, will make it possible for Kaplan to offer even more opportunities for academic and professional success in our classrooms and books.”
