New Children’s List

NEW YORK, NY/01/20/06—Simon & Schuster Audio, one of the world’s leading audiobook publishers, today announced their plans to enter the children’s audiobook arena. The first list in the new publishing program, launching in the summer of 2006, includes PETER PAN IN SCARLET by Geraldine McCaughrean, the widely anticipated first authorized sequel to Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie’s original classic; ROOM ONE by New York Times-bestselling author Andrew Clements; and GIDEON THE CUTPURSE by Linda Buckley-Archer.

All Simon & Schuster Audio’s children’s titles will be available for download as well as in CD format, enabling greater access to this rapidly-growing younger market.

Chris Lynch, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Audio said, “The audiobook business is growing as is publishing for young readers. New technologies are making audio titles available to a broader, younger audience than ever. The timing is perfect for S&S Audio to enter the children’s market. We are combining the best of our Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing division’s stellar list with S&S Audio’s Grammy Award-winning audio production team. We will have a major impact on the marketplace.”

In recent years, the company has produced audio content for bestselling children’s titles, including CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS by John Lithgow, which received a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Spoken Word Album for Children.”

“We are pleased to be able to partner with our audio division on key titles to provide this increasingly important format for our audience, and to create this additional revenue stream for our content. S&S is a force in both the Audio and Children’s publishing fields, and together we will emerge as a force in children’s audio,” said Rick Richter, President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.

In 2005, Simon & Schuster Audio had 19 Publishers Weekly bestsellers, including CHRONICLES by Bob Dylan, read by Sean Penn; 1776 by David McCullough, read by the author; ANGELS & DEMONS by Dan Brown, read by Richard Poe; and Dr. Phil McGraw’s FAMILY FIRST, read by the author.
