Eagle Publishing, the conservative owner of Regnery Publishing, Inc., is up for sale and has attracted several qualified buyers. Publishers Weekly confirmed rumors today with Jeff Carneal, president of the company. Among potential buyers is Salem Communications, according to a post on WND by Jerome Corsi, who said Salem is close to buying Eagle. Carneal, however, said it is premature to make an announcement.
Salem is best known for its radio network and also owns Web sites and magazines and targets conservative audiences. Salem also owns the Christian self-publishing company Xulon Press. For the first nine months of 2013 it had sales of about $174 million; revenue in its publishing division was flat at approximately $9 million.
In addition to Regnery, Eagle owns the Conservative Book Club and the Human Events Group which publishes newsletters and Web sites on a variety of topics.
