COLUMBIA, MO/2/22/07–What do a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, the CEO of a publishing giant and Columbia's 2006 Citizen of the Year have in common? They're among the star-studded lineup of speakers at the 2007 Publishing Summit sponsored by the Missouri Association of Publications (MAP) March 1-2 at the University of Missouri’s Memorial Union in Columbia, Mo.
From grammar reviews, to photography sessions, to the announcement of the winners of MAP’s first-ever awards competition, the MAP Summit offers an information-packed schedule with sessions on writing and editing, design and visuals, and publishing and management.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Jacqui Banaszynski, MU School of Journalism professor, will deliver the keynote speech, “Get on Your Knees and Dance: The Enduring Power of Storytelling.”
Overland Park, Kan., based Ascend Media CEO Cam Bishop will explain how to treat your publication as a brand, while Larry Lannon, also of Ascend Media who works in Chicago, will share how to build your business online.
Fred Parry, Columbia’s Citizen of the Year and owner/publisher of Inside Columbia Magazine, will lead the publisher’s roundtable, which is designed to generate 101 revenue-building ideas.
In addition to educational and professional development sessions, the MAP Summit offers participants a chance to network with industry professionals from around the region and to view exhibits from various organizations representing all facets of publishing.
“Attendees will have a hard time deciding which sessions to attend since there are so many strong ones, led by knowledgeable, very experienced speakers,” says John Fennell, MU School of Journalism professor. “This year’s summit is the one-day professional retreat you won’t want to miss.”
Early-bird registration is $125 for members, $175 for non-members; the deadline is Feb. 16. After that, registration will be $175 for members and $225 for non-members.
