Penguin Classics is launching a new podcast series – On The Road with Penguin Classics – hosted by author and editor Henry Eliot.
In each episode, Eliot travels to a different literary location to explore a work of world literature with a guest. The first episode features Olivia Vinall, who starred in the BBC TV adaptation of The Woman in White, travelling to the Cumbrian coastline to explore the Wilkie Collins classics. Other guests due to appear in further episodes include Louis de Bernières – author of the bestselling Captain Corelli’s Mandolin – on The Mill on the Floss; critic Susheila Nasta reminiscing on meeting writer Sam Selvon for the first time in 1976; screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce on Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne; poet Patience Agbabi retracing Chaucer’s pilgrimage in The Canterbury Tales; and biographer Alexandra Harris on Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway.
The first season will feature six episodes and began fortnightly from 28 January. Season two is due to air later in the year.
