Marcus Departs

After 22 Years

NEW YORK, NY/04/07/2005—After 22 years as a top executive at Scholastic, Inc., Barbara Marcus is departing the company. Most recently, she had served as president of Children’s Book Publishing and Distribution and executive vice president. She will remain until the July 16 release if the next Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Lisa Holton, senior vice president and publisher of Global Disney Children’s Books, will join Scholastic in mid-May to succeed Marcus as executive vice president of Scholastic. Holton will also be president of Book Fairs and Trade.

Marcus, who managed the release of all five Harry Potter books, joined Scholastic in 1983 and became president of the Children’s Book Group in 1991.
