Names Boersma
As Publisher
TORONTO/NEW YORK/8/28/06—Kids Can Press, a major children’s publisher with offices in both Toronto and New York, has promoted vice president and associate publisher Karen Boersma to the role of president and publisher after the retirement of Valerie Hussey, who headed the publisher for 27 years.
Boersma has been with KCP since 1998, initially serving as rights director and alter as associate publisher. Formerly, she worked for Groundwood Books, University of Toronto Press and Doubleday.
Lisa Lyons has been assigned from KPC’s parent company Corus to serve as interim general manager of the C$14 million children’s publishing unit while continuing to service as vice president and general manager of content distribution for Corus’s television division.
Valerie Hussey is leaving the company for personal reasons and said she is ready to “take on a new challenge.”
Kids Can Press (KCP) was started in 1973 by a small group of women who wanted to produce books for children around the world. Twenty-eight years later, Kids Can Press has become a leading publisher of children’s books. KCP has more than 575 books in print, 45 employees, a long list of successes and an international reputation for producing original, award-winning books.
