Appointed Director
of Frankfurt Book Fair
FRANKFURT, GERMANY/01/03/053-Jürgen Boos, age 43, has been appointed director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, effective April 1, 2005. The announcement was made January 3 by the Supervisory Board of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (BBG), the parent company of the Ausstellungs- und Messe GmbH (AuM) that organizes the fair.
“We’re delighted to have found in Jürgen Boos a man who is a proven expert in both publishing and marketing,” said Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Joachim Treeck. “His excellent knowledge of international arts and culture is just what the world’s largest book fair needs to continue building on its national and international importance.” Jürgen Boos is currently a member of the Senior Management at Wiley-VCH. Incumbent Director Volker Neumann will remain in office parallel to Boos until December 31, 2005.
Jürgen Boos has a solid background in publishing and the book trade. After graduating in Business Studies at the University of Mannheim, he took over as Head of Sales at the Munich-based Droemerschen Verlagsanstalt in 1991 and switched to the same position at the fiction part of Carl Hanser in 1992. Having in 1993 been appointed a member of the board and Head of Marketing/Sales at Lange & Springer Wissenschaftliche Buchhandlung of Berlin, Boos was henceforth responsible not only for its branches in Cologne and Göttingen, but also for those in Italy, Poland and the erstwhile CIS states.
He took over as Head of International Sales at the parent company, Julius Springer Verlag Berlin/Heidelberg, in 1996 and since 1997 has been Head of Marketing, Sales and Distribution at the scientific publishing house, Wiley-VCH in Weinheim, a subsidiary company of John Wiley & Sons, one of the most important publishing houses world-wide for scientific and professional literature.
