July 11 – July 17, 2011 Edition John Sandford’s Bad Blood Wins Thriller Writers Award

New York, NY/Authorlink News/July 11, 2011–Number-one New York Times bestselling author John Sandford was honored at the sixth annual Thriller Awards banquet, where his novel BAD BLOOD, published last September by G.P. Putnam’s Sons, won for Best Hardcover Novel. The Thriller Awards, and the annual ThrillerFest conference, are sponsored by International Thriller Writers (ITW). This year’s gala was held at the Grand Hyatt in New York City on Saturday, July 9.

International Thriller Writers is an honorary society of authors who write books broadly classified as thrillers, fiction or nonfiction. The other authors nominated in the category of Best Hardcover Novel were Michael Connelly, Jeffery Deaver, Mo Hayder and Brian Freeman. Upon receiving the award, Sandford recognized his friend and collaborator on the novel, Mike Sweeney, a longtime reporter who is also the leader of the Twin Cities Newspaper Guild. In BAD BLOOD, Minneapolis-based detective Virgil Flowers helps a small-town Minnesota sheriff solve a sordid series of backwoods killings which lead them to one of the vilest crime rings in history.

John Sandford, a pseudonym for John Camp, is a veteran police reporter turned Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the highly-acclaimed Prey series of novels, as well as the new series of novels featuring Flowers, of which BAD BLOOD is the most recent. The series originated with Dark of the Moon in 2007 and was immediately embraced by critics and readers. As The Richmond Times-Dispatch put it, “Sandford combines the grit of the thriller with the puzzle of the whodunit in the Flowers series. The melding is masterful and produces an exquisitely paced book at once beautiful and profane.” The paperback edition of Bad Blood will be published by Berkley Books in October 2011. Sandford’s next novel in the Flowers series, Shock Wave, is due out from G.P. Putnam’s Sons on October 4, 2011.

Neil Nyren, Senior Vice President, Publisher, and Editor in Chief, G. P. Putnam’s Sons, said, “John and I have worked together for about 23 years now, and he’s not only a fabulous writer, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. It’s a very, very richly-deserved honor.”
