Buys Bankrupt
iBooks Assets
NEW YORK, NY/12/20/06—Boylston & Company has acquired the assets of several companies owned by the late Byron Preiss, who was killed in an auto accident in July 2005. The acquiring publisher is owned by John Colby of J.T. Colby & Company, Inc. and operates Brick Tower Press, which publishes a variety of books including business, gardening, self help and science.
Boylston, which apparently does not yet have a web site, paid a reported $125,000 for some 500 titles which were originally published under iBooks, Milk & Cookies Press and Byron Preiss imprints. iBooks’ list includes science fiction, fantasy, popular culture, military nonfiction and history.
The Preiss properties were placed into Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this year.
In 2007, John Colby plans to release 11 books under the iBooks imprint. The forthcoming titles are ones delayed by the bankruptcy. The Milk & Cookies line will be expanded and Colby will continue to operate the Byron Priess Visual Publications, a book packaging unit. PGW will continue to distribute the books under the new owners.
J.T. Colby & Company is located in New York City.
