Houghton Mifflin’s
Marmion to Chair
AAP Exec Committee

NEW YORK, NY/9/27/08–The Association of American Publishers announced yesterday that Bridget Marmion, Senior Vice President and Director of Marketing of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Trade & Reference Division, will take over the chair of the AAP Trade Publishers Executive Committee. Ms. Marmion succeeds industry veteran Bob Miller, President of HarperStudio, who has chaired the Committee since 2002. The Committee, comprising senior level industry executives, guides AAP’s work as it intersects trade publishing interests.

“With years of trade publishing experience and valuable service as a member of the Trade Executive Committee and chair of the Diversity Recruit and Retain Committee, Bridget brings the passion, intellect and commitment needed to keep the Trade Executive Committee on course in the coming days,” Bob Miller said.

A key component of the Trade Executive Committee’s mission is advising the AAP Board and staff on issues pertinent to the national retailing and trade publishing communities, including developing programs in collaboration with booksellers, librarians, book reviewers, media and others to heighten awareness of good books and authors. The Trade Executive Committee also provides direction for the Get Caught Reading and Get Caught Listening literacy and audiobook public awareness campaigns and for philanthropic programs and community outreach activities such as Adopt-a-School, a collaboration between the publishing community and the New York City public schools which brings authors to public schools around the city to fire up enthusiasm for books and reading among New York’s school children. The Trade Executive Committee is also responsible for identifying and selecting appropriate recipients for the AAP Honors award, which is given annually to an individual or organization outside the publishing community for outstanding work in promoting American books and authors.

AAP President and CEO Pat Schroeder expressed the Association’s gratitude to Bob Miller, saying: “It’s impossible to overstate the debt that we at AAP and the industry as a whole owe Bob for his commitment and leadership in shaping the Trade Publishers Executive Committee over the past six years.
