Rushes Bhutto’s
Last Book to Press

NEW YORK, NY/1/8/08–HarperCollins will rush to release a book submitted by former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto just days before her Dec. 27 assassination. The publisher, whose parent company is News Corp, said it has scheduled a February 12 release of Bhutto’s Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy, and the West.

HarperCollins had paid Bhutto an advance of about $75,000 during her October visit to the U.S. Bhutto, former two-time prime minister of Pakistan, had been living in exile and had recently returned to her country to reclaim an active role in politics. Bhutto’s murder was blamed on al Qaeda, but no one has been arrested.

Mark Siegel collaborated with Bhutto in writing the book. Her husband and children will write a short afterword. Tim Duggan, the acquiring editor at HarperCollins, calls the book Bhutto’s legacy.
