New York, NY (May 13, 2025) – Furthermore grants in publishing, a program of the J. M. Kaplan Fund, is resuming grantmaking this year. Furthermore offers grants to support the publication of nonfiction books that concern the arts, history, and the natural and built environments.
The program is re-opening thanks in part to additional support provided by Hawthornden Foundation. “We are thrilled to re-start Furthermore,” said Julia Bator, Executive Director of the J. M. Kaplan Fund. “This is a time for like-minded foundations to join together on shared priorities, and we are so pleased to be working with Hawthornden to provide support to non-fiction books and to keep publishing vibrant and diverse.”
Furthermore grants support a wide array of nonprofit organizations including academic institutions, museums, historical associations, university presses, and independent publishers. The program assists all aspects of the publishing process, from writing and research through to printing and binding. “The subject matter, the different stages of publication, and the organizations that Furthermore supports are wide-ranging and far-reaching,” said Ellyn Toscano, Executive Director of Hawthornden Foundation. “We are delighted to be supporting this important effort.”
Grant applications are currently being accepted with an application deadline of 1 July. More information and the online grant application can be found on Furthermore’s website at www.furthermore.org.
Furthermore was founded in 1995 as a program of the J. M. Kaplan Fund by Joan K. Davidson (1927 – 2023). Since its inception, it has supported nearly 1,500 nonfiction works with over $8 million.
