Closes on an Upbeat Note

FRANKFURT, GERMANY/10/13/03–The Frankfurt Book Fair, world’s largest publishing event, closes today on an upbeat note with more than 6400 exhibitors from 100 countries showing approximately 350,000 titles. Some 273,000 visitors attended. the eight-day event, a healthy increase after several years of decline.

This year’s fair attracted almost 500 literary agents and rights traders and 12,000 journalists. Fair director Volker Neumann reported that the number of exhibitors increased 4 percent, and included 4,000 exhibitors from abroad.

After some talk of moving the fair to Munich, fair officials signed a multiyear contract to stay in Frankfurt, with the German government working to help hold fair costs down. Official registration deadline for next year’s Frankfurt Book Fair 2004 is February 29th 2004. Exhibitors who register before December 31 this year receive a 3 percent discount.
