May 3 – 9, 2010 Edition Crown Publishing Undergoes More Restructuring

NEW YORK, NY/AUTHORLINK NEWS/5/3/2010–Random House late last week completed another round of changes at Crown Publishng. Restructuring began last December with the move of non-trade operations into a new unit under publisher Maya Mavjee.

The latest restructuring splits the Crown group into three new divisions and closes Shaye Areheart Books, cutting the number of imprints from 16 to 15. Shaye Areheart becomes editor-at-large. Crown Business and Broadway Business imprints are now merged under the Crown name.

The restructuring places all of the group’s general interest fiction and narrative nonfiction titles under the Crown Publishers and Broadway Books imprints. The imprints will retain their separate identities, but will report to one as-yet-to-be-named executive.

Diane Salvatore’s job as v-p and publisher for Broadway has been eliminated, and she will leave the company. Broadway senior editor Lorraine Glennon is also leaving.

David Drake, newly promoted to oversee all publicity for Crown, said the changes mean that all fiction will be released under the Crown imprint, and that there will be no reduction in fiction title output.

Crown Publishing has also created a new branded publishing unit, Crown Archetype, for its well-known authors with platforms. Also included in the new Crown unit will be Harmony Books, now concenterating on mind/body/spirit, the combined Crown Business, and Crown Forum. Tina Constable, who had been Crown publisher, will manage the new group.

A third group will publish Crown’s four-color, lifestyle and cooking titles under the direction of Lauren Shakely. Included in this unit are Clarkson Potter, Watson-Guptill, The Monacelli Press and Ten Speed Press.

In addition, the group’s trade paperback imprints will be under the direction of one person, Tina Pohlman, formery senior editor at spiegel & Grau. Pohlman willl manage the Three Rivers Press and Broadway Paperbacks imprints.

Philip Patrick, formelry v-p and publisher of Three Rivers, will now be v-p for digital marketing strategy and publisher of Crown Digital Publising. His responsibilities will include development and marketing of all e-boos, apps and digital content.
