Original Voices
Winners at Ceremony
ANN ARBOR, MI/4/8/08–Borders Group Chief Executive Officer George Jones will lead the retailer’s 12th annual Original Voices Awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. April 15 at Borders concept store on Lohr Road in Ann Arbor. There the winners will attend a collective book signing.
The award recognizes fresh, compelling and ambitious works from new and emerging talents of 2007 in fiction, non-fiction, young adult/independent reader and children’s picture books. The winner of the Original Voices’ fiction category is Steven Hall for his debut book, "The Raw Shark Texts: A Novel," published by Canongate. The winner of the Original Voices’ nonfiction category is Peter Godwin for his book, "When a Crocodile Eats the Sun: A Memoir of Africa," published by Little Brown & Co. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: A Novel in Cartoons," written by Jeff Kinney and published by Abrams Books for Young Readers, is the Original Voices’ winner of the young adult/independent reader category. In the children’s picture book category, the Original Voices’ winner is author and illustrator John Rocco for "Wolf! Wolf!" published by Hyperion Books for Children.
The unique signing and awards ceremony celebrates some of the finest new and emerging authors of the year as selected by Borders’ Original Voices program. During the one-time only event exclusively at Borders concept store, fans can personally meet Godwin, Hall and Rocco. Customers can find recommendations for the best new books every year through Borders’ Original Voices program.
