Borders, Inc. Enters
Online Entertainment
With New Book Club
ANN ARBOR, MI/10/2/06—Borders Inc., a subsidiary of global book, music and movie retailer Borders Group, Inc. (NYSE: BGP), has announced its first foray into broadband entertainment with its new online program, the Borders Book Club. The premiere episode, released September 28, features Mitch Albom discussing his brand new book, For One More Day.
"Our customers turn to Borders everyday for information and entertainment, in the form of author readings, performances, and as a community gathering place," said Michael Tam, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Borders Group, Inc. "Our move into original, online entertainment is a natural and strategic progression for us, one that will have a very strong appeal to anyone who lives and appreciates the booklover’s lifestyle."
“We embrace our role as a vital member of the communities we serve," Tam continued. “It was important to us that we devise a program that delivered the same relaxed, engaging and comfortable experience of the Borders bookstore setting into people’s offices and living rooms.”
The premiere episode of the Borders Book Club captures the warmth, intimacy and real-life discussion that anyone who participates in a book club will surely recognize.
Going forward, the Borders Book Club will seek to highlight some of the most interesting and important authors and books of the season in this new and unique online forum. Each episode will provide insight into the author’s thinking in an open, unscripted discussion and will conclude with a sharing of some of the treats and snacks of the club members. Recipes from each episode will be featured on the Borders Book Club website. The website also features reading guides, excerpts, tips on how to start a book club as well as how to find a local book club by using area Borders stores as resources.
To help launch the new program, Borders Book Club premiere episode features Mitch Albom, an award-winning author, composer, journalist and radio host with an uncanny ability to connect with his fans. Albom will discuss his new book, For One More Day, and will provide fans who do not live near a Borders store hosting the author during his fall book tour the opportunity to learn what motivated the author to write his new book on love, loss, redemption and second chances and to hear how fans, just like themselves, felt when reading it.
