12/17/03The anticipated success of the motion picture Cold Mountain, which was released December 25, has prompted Grove Press (owned by Grove/Atlantic, Inc.) to reissue the hardcover title of the book, which sold about 1.5 million copies when initially released six years ago.
The book, which won the National Book Award in 1997, will be part of a four-title package that will be marketed along with the movie.
Grove Atlantic, Inc. is the result of a 1993 merger of Atlantic Monthly Press and Grove Press, and has since been at the forefront of the American library and publishing scene.
Atlantic Monthly Press was founded in 1917 as an imprint of Little Brown. During the next 16 years, the Press’s books won more than sixteen Pulitzer Prizes and National Book Awards. Among the Press’s best-selling award winning titles published during those years were Mutiny on the Bounty, Goodbye Mr. Chips, Drums Along the Mohawk, Ship of Fools, Fire in the Lake, The Soul of the New Machine, and Blue Highways.
In 1985, the Press was spun off from the magazine and became independent. During this period, Atlantic published such authors as Patricia Highsmith, J.P. Donleavy, Bruce Jay Friedman, P. J. O’Rourke, Richard Ford, Raymond Carver, Jeanette Winterson, Tobias Wolff, Rian Malan, and Ron Chernow, author of the National Book Award winning title, The House of Morgan. Grove Atlantic also published the popular book, Black Hawk Down.
