The Book Industry Study Group is offering a webcast on June 4 at 1 p.m. EDT for publishing professionals to learn how the new International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) can improve efficiency and accuracy when tracking intellectual property.
The ISNI is a globally recognized and adopted standard for the unambiguous identification of public identities across all fields of creative activity. It works by assigning the author, creator, or subject of intellectual property a unique numerical identifier.
Those interested can register for the session here.
Using ISNIs can help you solve the following problems:
- You work in the area of rights, royalties, contracts, and permissions, and regularly sell or negotiate access to one author’s work, especially when dealing with international or digital rights.
- You want to enhance your catalog by enabling users to access more of an author’s work.
- You want your search results to be accurate and complete without a lot of “noise” by filtering out the irrelevant results when two authors have the same name, while recognizing all listings for an author with multiple name variants.
- You want to provide the ability to access one author’s complete work regardless of the medium – articles, books, recordings, and more.
- You are in the library community working toward better ways of sharing catalog information, including linked data bases.
In this webcast, Laura Dawson, Product Manager for Identifiers at Bowker, will demonstrate the value of ISNI’s for better rights tracking, enhanced database services, and more accurate searches. In addition, Laura will demonstrate ways to incorporate ISNIs into your company’s metadata management.
Google and other search engines are already using ISNIs to deliver better search results. Join this webcast here to learn how ISNIs can improve your accuracy and efficiency for benefits to your bottom line.
